Matt Simon offers beginning and intermediate acoustic and electric guitar lessons in your home or his (if you're not allergic to cats). Matt and his wife, Christine, are long-time Montgomery County residents, and live near Sligo Creek on the Takoma Park / Silver Spring border. He teaches throughout this area, in NW Washington, DC, and in other nearby Maryland suburbs.

Matt teaches adult students and children, and emphasizes making sure kids have fun learning guitar.

With 28 years' guitar experience, Matt specializes in tailored lessons that allow even beginners to start off playing the musical styles they enjoy. Even at your first lesson, you may request songs by artists you choose. (Most songwriters' work can be arranged for beginning guitar.) Styles taught include folk, country, classic pop/rock, contemporary popular music (including teen pop), and blues. (Note: Beginners who wish to start on electric guitar and play mostly heavy metal should choose an instructor who specializes in hard rock. There are many good ones in the area.)

Beginning students will learn chords, chord progressions, and scales that will enable them to play dozens of songs in a short time. Study of musical notation is optional for beginners. Intermediate lessons include instruction in fingerstyle picking (if desired), combining chords and melodies, styles of solo playing, varieties of guitar notation (including tabs and standard music notation), and easy-to-learn aspects of music theory practical to the guitarist.
